Start the Lumicast player on startup (Android)

First make sure you've installed the Lumicast Signage Player on your Android device.

TIP

A dedicated signage device always starts Lumicast by itself. You don't need the steps below for it.

Enabling auto start

The first time the app starts, it asks Start automatically? — choose Enable and grant the permission it asks for. Missed it? Use the steps below.

  1. Open the Lumicast Signage Player app.
  2. Press OK/Enter on your remote, or on a touch device swipe up anywhere on the screen. This opens the menu.
  3. Select Launch on boot. On Android 10 and later, Android opens the Display over other apps setting (called Draw over other apps on some devices) — allow it for Lumicast, then go back to the app.
  4. Select Launch on boot again — the red cross becomes a green checkmark once auto start is on.

Testing auto start

Reboot the device completely.

Using a Chromecast or similar? Pressing the power button only puts it to sleep, so turning it back on won't trigger the app's autostart. Instead, reboot via Settings > System > Restart.

The Lumicast player should launch once the device comes back on.

Keep the display from switching itself off

Google TV and many other Android TVs switch themselves off after a few hours without anyone using the remote, even while Lumicast is playing. Turn that off in the TV's settings: look for Energy saver, Idle TV standby or Auto power off, usually under Settings > System > Power and energy, and set it to Never or Off.

The Lumicast menu shows a warning when the display will switch itself off. A dedicated signage device is never affected.

The app didn't start automatically?

Your device probably doesn't support the normal auto-start flow. Follow the advanced ADB steps in the Fire TV Stick install guide.
