Get the MAC address of a Raspberry Pi player

Does your network admin need the MAC address of a Raspberry Pi to register it on the Wi-Fi or wired network? You can find it on the display itself or in Lumicast.

On the display

Connect a USB keyboard to the Pi and press M to open the service menu. It shows MAC address next to the IP address.

This is the MAC address of the connection the Pi is using right now: Wi-Fi or a network cable. Wi-Fi and the network cable each have their own MAC address, so check it while the Pi uses the connection you want to register. Press Esc to close the service menu.

In Lumicast

If the display is already connected to Lumicast:

  1. Open Displays and click the display.
  2. On its Overview page, click Technical display information.
  3. Under network, mac is the address of the connection in use. interfaces lists every connected network interface with its own mac: eth0 is the network cable and wlan0 is Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi that only allows registered devices

The Pi only shows the MAC address of a connection that is up. If the Wi-Fi network only lets the Pi in after you've registered it, first connect the Pi to another Wi-Fi network for a moment, such as a hotspot on your phone, with Configure Wi-Fi in the service menu. The service menu then shows the Wi-Fi MAC address. Register it, then switch the Pi to the right network.
